Kama Sutra’s New Cover
At platform_, we are on a constant look out for interesting artists, designers and writers alike, whose oeuvre assures us that the world is still a better place brimming with exciting talent. So when we came across the London based, French artist and illustrator Malika Farve, we were intrigued. What piqued our interest even further was that she had recently collaborated with Penguin US to design a fresh, contemporary cover for the cultural and literary classic, Kama Sutra.
For those who don’t know (and we know there maybe only a handful), Kama Sutra is considered to be the global bible of lovemaking. Authored by Vātsyāyana and thought to be scripted somewhere between 400 BCE to 200 CE, the pages of this book certainly have a lot to offer to the world in terms of sensual and sexual gyaan. Having said that, it’s not a surprise then that this educative manual has gone into several prints.
Malika was approached by Penguin US to design a new cover for the Deluxe edition of the timeless classic. Since the pages inside the book are vacant of the images of those ‘flexible’ positions, the challenge for Malika then, was to create a cover which captured the essence of the book and at the same time was striking enough to arrest attention. After many deliberations and artistic pondering, she came up with a sexy, playful cover that had the title’s alphabets in subtly tantalizing forms, sprawling across the body of the cover. ‘Once folded, the words become hidden and the big letters themselves turn into acrobatic positions,’ she shares.
Here are a few clicks of the cover to give you a better idea…
