Aditya Balani (Aditya Balani Group)
Genre World Jazz
World Jazz & India Overall, I’ve got a good response; as for many people it’s a very new sound. I feel that for any form of music or art to be widely appreciated it has to be on the cultural horizon for a while before people absorb its essence and relate to it. Indian music whether classical, folk or film is very vocal melody driven. Jazz, which is still growing on the Indian audience has a strong harmonic element, which takes a while to develop an ear for. In general I found the audience relating more to tunes with more melodic intricacies than harmonic interplay.
Message via music Well, I think I’d rather let the music speak for itself.
Genre Adventure. Global Bass.
Hip hop & India My journey as an artist has been nothing short of fantastic! There has never been a more exciting time to be South Asian and be living as a full time artist. A true spirit of change and progress has encapsulated India and it is being felt heavily in the West. Some components of that energy include a burgeoning DIY indie movie scene in India, in addition to music producers, both inside and outside of Bollywood, taking notice of global movements and incorporating those ideas into their work. Case in point – I find myself returning to India to both perform and produce more often than ever.
Message via music My energy is that of love. I accept my flawed human side, and I equally accept the spiritual energy which I have been blessed with. When I was younger, I took the name, the1shanti because I wished for my art to engage with people in a way, which would enhance their journey toward a place of peace and tranquility in life. Everything is temporary. Including this time we are spending together in life. Let’s love one another and make the most of it.
Genre World beat – folklore coming together with rock
Message via music I don’t know, but I’d ask them to work their passion hard if they want to live.
The Band – Joi We have known each other for the last 15 years and always wanted to do something that would be purely soul. This band and its sound is a very significant coming together of friends with subliminal musical experiences.
Robert Vijay Gupta
Sound and sensibility as an artist I’m always focusing on creating a very warm sound. My sensibility I guess would be of complete and total integrity to the music that’s in front of me. We play music of the great classical masters, so often I find it important to treat that music like a Bible – following it to the T. There’s a story of humanity in that music that we have to find.
Message via music Music is a language that goes far deeper than words and reaches at a fundamental place in the human psyche. It’s a medium that communicates a message of humanity. When contributed to an audience it acts as a stimulus and can be medicine as well. That’s one of the things I found through the non-profit organizations that I started, Street Symphony, that performs specifically for homeless and mentally ill audiences. The music is a bridge between my world and theirs.
Sonam Kalra (The Sufi Gospel Project)
Genre Sufi Gospel
Sound and sensibility as an artist I think my sound is more acoustic, I prefer the nakedness of voice or any instrument to come through, so I’m not one for noise or harsh sounds or over instrumentation. I think less is more.
Message via music Just of love. I like to connect with people through my music, to reach out. When someone writes to me and tells me my music touched them then it makes the music all the more special, and valid._
