An Oasis

Amidst the never-ending sand dunes in the middle of the Peruvian desert lies a tiny settlement, complete with a lagoon, palm forests, and a population of 100 people. At first this vision of utopia seems like a mirage, but as you come closer you realize its actually a beautiful Oasis. Which is exactly what we plan to catalogue today- 3 of world’s most amazing Oasis.

Huacachina, Peru

Legend says Huacachina’s lagoon was created when an inquisitive young hunter disturbed a beautiful princess bathing. She fled, leaving the pool of water behind which became the lagoon.

Today Huacachina or the Oasis of America has gone through a metamorphosis of its own and serves as a resort for local families from the nearby city of Ica, and increasingly as an attraction for tourists drawn by the sport of sandboarding on sand dunes that stretch several hundred feet high.

Ein Gedi, Israel
Similar to Huacachina, hidden deep amid hundreds of miles of barren desert is the Oasis of Ein Gedi in Israel. En Gedi is the largest oasis on the west coast of the Dead Sea covering an area of 25kms. It’s the lowest point on earth, some 400 m. below sea level. It is one of the most important reserves in Israel. The botanical garden covers an area with more than 900 species of plants from all over the world!

Crescent Lake, China

Located approximately 6 km (3.73 miles) from the outskirts of the city of Dunhuang in Western China, lies Crescent Lake, an incredible Oasis in the Gobi desert. Known as Yueyaquan in Chinese, the crescent-shaped lake is a major tourist attraction and home to one of the world’s greatest Buddhism shrine. In the recent past, the Oasis has also acquired the status of a World Heritage Site._
