The Levitating Orb

Jinha Lee, a research assistant at the MIT Media Lab, in collaboration with Rehmi Post and Hiroshi Ishii, has created a prototype levitational interface called ZeroN, which uses computer-controlled magnetic levitation to allow an interactive element, an orb, to float mid- air. This orb can be moved by people, computers, and can also be programmed to remember the movements it has just created. ZeroN can even serve as a virtual camera or light source in a 3D scene. It also has other applications such as animation prototyping, physics education, and 3D design.
