The Experimenter
Arjun Saluja plays with structure and drape like none other. Defying all norms, he does not believe in flattering or romanticizing his women or the common pretty-is-fashion notion. With Arjun it’s safer to not expect a prescribed list of shapes, silhouettes, fabrics and even colours. All set to showcase Rishta’s newest collection we get a little peek into the designer’s sensibility this fall.
If you were to pick the perfect ensemble for the summer, what would it be? Keep it slouchy, easy and relaxed.
Tell us about your A/W’12 collection. My migrant in ‘No Ground Beneath My Feet’ is a composite of mixed shapes, textures, colours and silhouettes. The labourer’s flowing existence that ironically constructs stability becomes a focal point of interpretation in the ‘structure vs. drape’ philosophy. The hybrid’s ability to bring together differing elements and fuse them into one whole takes shape in ‘single piece or look’ layering. The construction worker’s own deconstructed dreams find form in burnt sequin. Cottons, silk linens, satins and tweeds, in white & black, olive & lime, nude & brown, grey & blue, tell the story of struggle and strength, reality and dreams, destruction and new creation._
