THE ŠKODA PRIZE 2011 Finalists

Clockwise: Navin Thomas; L.N. Tallur; Jitish Kallat

The wait is finally over. ŠKODA Prize, one of the most spirited contests for visual-arts in the country, recently announced the finalists for the Best Solo Exhibition in Indian Contemporary Art. After rummaging through 128 entries, 20 were handpicked out of which three made it to the shortlist – Jitish Kallat (Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum), L. N. Tallur (Nature Morte) and Navin Thomas (Gallery SKE). We found out how Navin Thomas and L. N. Tallur felt after they had been shortlisted –

‘When I made the longlist, I thought it was funny. Now that I made the shortlist, it’s a bit surreal. In any case am going to go get some beer and order in tonight.’ Navin Thomas

‘Comedian Steven Wright once said ‘I’d kill for a Nobel Peace Prize’. I have to think hard now, how to get the prize?!’ – L. N. Tallur

While the winner to this coveted award will be announced on 28th January 2012, the works of the top three will be exhibited at the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi towards the end of January. Keep those fingers crossed for your favourite of the trio._
